Exploring Turkey Chicks

chicks outWe have been putting the turkey chicks outside in good weather in a dog crate for a week or so. Yesterday we decided to let them loose in a specially sectioned off area of the front garden. They loved it and spent a while exploring their new environment, pecking at dirt and generally having a good time.

And then one of the turkeys  hopped onto the partition and before we knew it they had all escaped and were hanging out with the silkies – their new best friends. They are now free-ranging in the day although we still pop them in their brooder at night so they don’t get cold.

    • Maybe, but I have a feeling he might just want to be friends with them – he is soppy like that. Daisy Dog snarled at them, but as they don’t understand dog they just ignored her and kept getting closer. Finally she turned her head away because everyone knows if you can’t see something, then it doesn’t exist!

  1. So proud of the silkies for letting the chicks in to their space and world. Love how your little beasties are making their way. Great story.
