We had a local butcher make up sausages from our British Lop pig and also cure and smoke some streaky and back bacon. They then packaged them up properly for sale. We now are able to sell frozen sausages and bacon from our own pigs.
These pigs have had a fabulous life, living outside on the smallholding, eating organic pig food and apples from our trees. They also had the best possible death they could have. The bacon is thick cut and has a good bit of fat on it which tastes absolutely delicious.
So if you are coming here to stay on the campsite or just passing by, stop in and get some bacon for breakfast and sausages for the BBQ. We keep it in a commercial freezer but if you come to the back of the house and give us a shout we will get you some.
Although I cure bacon for us to eat and make our own sausages we are not set up to do this for sale to the public – we don’t have a separate, very clean kitchen for example. However, we do have plans when we have the funds …..
