Stuffed Courgette Flowers

flowersWe have a lot of courgettes and consequently a lot of courgette flowers so I made stuffed courgettes. Life is not too short to stuff a courgette – in fact this might be the actual meaning of life – but I digress…..

Stuffed Courgette Flowers: courgette flowers, cream cheese, ricotta or labneh – I used home made labneh this time as that is what I had in the fridge – lemon zest, basil, parmesan, breadcrumbs, egg, flour.

Here is my lovely labneh – I will write more on this at another time.


Mix the labneh (or cream cheese) with the lemon zest, basil and parmesan. Season, if you want, add a beaten egg, if you want.

stuffingStuff spoonfuls of the mix into the courgette flowers – wash them if you want – I don’t as we garden organically – I do have a quick check for bugs, but a bit of extra protein won’t hurt.

StuffedGently toss in flour, dip in beaten egg and roll in breadcrumbs

breadedShallow fry in a little oil (who am I kidding – fry in a significant, but not a lot of oil) and then serve with home-made tomato sauce. As we have a LOT of courgettes I also served them with extra roasted courgettes with lemon juice on top.


N.B. Next I am going to try courgette flower tempura, but I might need to clean out my deep fat fryer for that one.

  1. Reminds me of my mother making the same thing when we were kids. Fried pumpkin flowers are what she used. Yummmmm.
